Wearing light coloured clothes, was a good idea, it shows up my spare tyre, gives me more motivation as this reminds me why I am making this effort. :-)
Eating humble pie tonight. lol,, I do not mind eating my words because I am thrilled to be doing it.
Picture
Less than a week ago, I near quit on the idea of my trying to run for more than about 30 to 60 seconds at a time, I decided it was just too hard and I did not have enough lung power to do it.

Today I ran for fifteen minute sessions on four separate occasions with some walks in between.

Picture
Yesterday was a hard day with carer duties; I only managed some beach and park walks and jogs. and once again got insufficient sleep. I began the day expecting to do little more exercise than walking.

Today man was better, than yesterday, though  he is still not at his best but I took him out to the boardwalk overlooking a lake with a 1.25 kilometer marked track and while he rested with the lake view, I ran the 1.25 kilometer course with some walking in between x 4 times, a total of 5 kilometers run.

Picture
I did this run, better than ever before, because  I ran at a gentle pace, one where I was breathless but not totally out of breath, a pace where I could keep running instead of having to slow down to get my breath.

The difference was that my time to run 1 kilometer has increased by 1 minute, but it is more sustainable, more something, I now feel capable of doing and while my pace is slow, and I would hate to be running beside others and comparing myself with them.

Picture
I can for the first time in my life, visualize, that I could run 5 kilometers in one go.
I plan to try to do the triathlon.  Who knows, maybe tomorrow :-).  At the pace I ran it was not even as hard as the mountains I was climbing for my four week mini milestone.

I feel like I have more learned a way to run than I have achieved a greater fitness level, though I know there must have been a fitness increase in there too.

Picture
Now while I was doing all of that, I had a husband with frontal lobe dementia, feeling very left out and not looking as happy as I was with my achievement though he took these photos of me at my request  I need to make him feel involved in my exercise somehow.

I have no idea how I could extend this run into being able to do a triathlon, which is on the plan for the 12wbt for this weekend. I will not totally discount it as a possibility, not after finding a way that I believe I will be able to run a distance by pacing myself in a rhythm and telling myself to let my legs do the work not my lungs and finding this worked.

Beach Exercise at Eden with our Dog.. 04/11/2010

Picture
Aslings Beach, Eden, NSW.
The Sapphire Coast is surrounded by some of the most spectacular National Parks & walking tracks Australia has to offer and it is fun getting my fitness exercise by exploring those trails the dog is allowed to accompany us on.
We enjoyed the outdoor exercise here, so much we have extended our stay a few days longer.

Today Reg, Indigo and I, enjoyed a walk from the boardwalk opposite the caravan park we are staying at, along the boardwalk to the ocean beach then a long walk and I occasionally ran, along this beach. Over 13,000 steps, in all.  I also did some exercises, lunges, squats and stretches and I will be doing some incidental exercise, a little sorting and organizing in the caravan tonight.

While at the beach, we saw lots of surfers, and also a man doing yoga on the sand. What could be more inspiring than exercising beside the beautiful Aslings Beach at Eden.

My meals today were reasonably good, more at a maintenance level than a weight releasing level.

I have not mentioned but in my recent blood tests my Vitamin D levels have dropped down dramatically and I intend to go back to adding the 2 teaspoon full of olive oil to my diet as Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin and I take Vit D3 and my levels had been going up, getting closer to normal, so it was a shock to find they have gone down again.

Only difference in my diet is I was using a spray olive oil not measuring the oil out as 2 teaspoon full a day.  I am not concerned if I add an extra 70 calories, a day to my diet if I absorb my fat-soluble vitamins better. My bone density health is far more important to me than my weight and I do not want to lose weight at the expense of my bone density.
Bone density, will always be my priority, ~ but not an excuse for obesity :-).

The doctor was not concerned about my losing weight; he was however asking me to exercise. This I am doing. :-)

I ate muesli and fruit, with skim milk for breakfast, I usually use low fat, natural unsweetened yogurt but I have run out.  A cheese and salad sandwich for lunch some almonds and fruit for snacks, fish, and vegetables for dinner. I have probably gone over my calorie limit with the almonds but not by much.

I am enjoying the exercise I am doing, J, fitting it in well with outings with Reg and indigo and managing to do more than Reg, by choosing the running option then doubling back so he does not walk as far as I do.

I plan to do the tourist thing tomorrow, head into Boyd Town, look at the old whaling museum, maybe hike to a lookout point and do some shopping. I have set myself a minimum of 10,000 steps a day as my target and I will try to exceed that and make it a little harder by making some steps, uphill, or jogging.

10,000 Steps and a Foreshore, Family Walk, at Lakes Entrance, tonight. 04/08/2010

I had a long drive down from King Parrot Creek in the Goulburn Valley today; to Lakes Entrance in the southeast Of Victoria and I wore my pedometer with a determination to achieve at least 10,000 steps even on what would be a busy day.

I felt inspired by my friend Linda who has been reporting in her 10.000 steps a day accomplishment and I thought on days when I am sedentary, driving a lot. This would be a good target to aim for. 10,000- steps, great to keep the circulation moving.

I began the day with a walk around King Parrot Creek area, the same as we had done the evening before, when we had first arrived.

We stopped three times during the drive, got out, and had a walk, and a little shopping. I had planned to cook fish and vegetables, when we arrived at Lakes Entrance, but the trip was taking longer than I had hoped due to traffic and mountain terrain, so I blew my usual careful assessment of nutrition and calories and bought two takeaway seafood and chips boxes and two takeaway coffees.

Take away food is for me, a very rare event, possibly eaten once a year.  Another non-to brilliant weigh in ahead this week, I am thinking, unless I do a bit of jogging on the sand tomorrow and for the next few days, to make up for the indulgence.

We arrived at Lakes Entrance and we met up with my youngest daughter and her family here.  Reg and I went for a walk along the lake foreshore together. Later, when my daughter and her family had finished their dinner, I walked along the foreshore with them and over the bridge to the surf beach beyond then back.  My eldest grand daughter and I had a short jog together, J. It was fun though not very efficient in my Croc sandals.

The photos are of the black swans we saw along the water’s edge of the lake.

When I returned from the second evening walk, I had clocked up my 10,000 steps. Tomorrow I hope to spend a lot of time walking around the lake and leak with my daughter and her family. J Getting my exercise, as part of family life.   Without any lengthy driving tomorrow, I will be able to cook my own meals and eat healthier and more calories controlled again. also J.   It has been a big day. I’m relaxing by writing a few blog posts then I will be heading straight to sleep.

I am pleased that I can run, though I am no athlete runner. I manage short sprints.
I will be honest; I have not run for a week and a half. I am looking forward to getting back to my short sprints along the sand or on grassy ovals again during our tour.

Wii Age 01/27/2010

But.Drum rolls.  I am two days away from my three year anniversary of making the decision and acting on it, to change my lifestyle and become healthy and slimmer. ......... The very BEST gift for this three year anniversary, came today, when I did the fitness test in the Wii fit plus and it said my Wii age was down from my start of 62 years which was minus one year, from my actual 63 years of age, to ..........drum roll again. 35 years Wii fit age. J  I am pleased with myself.  I feel it too,  I’ve never felt fitter or healthier in my life.  In this last three years of gradually increasing fitness activity, I am certain I have added over thirty years to my life.  What better gift could you give yourself?   lol, I also bought a lovely cotton sun frock to wear on our caravan tour up  the coast.  fresh and bright, just how I am feeling today.

Home from the tour and 'ready to make the eight months until the next grand Australian tour, count. :-).  Many goals, but this is my fitness goal with action plan and to do list.

Goal, maintain and build fitness, bone density, firm and tone and release excess weight.
Action plan to achieve my goal. Join the Gym and continue to eat healthy, balanced, portion controlled meals i enjoy and continue to nurture my emotional needs in ways that do not involve eating..
To do list-Go to Gym
and Blog information posts about many aspects of self nurture, to share with others. time management, art tuition, heaps more, as time allows. The nutrition and self nurture, is almost automatic now, but I'll continue to blog about these things to keep my commitment to self care, high :-).

“There is a difference between interest and commitment.

When you are interested in doing something, you do it only when it’s convenient.

When your committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results”.

-          Kenneth Blanchard.

Yesterday I arrived home from our tour, began the spring cleaning, which was necessary because field mice had got into our home while we had been a way for over four months.   I had it high on a list of priorities to do once I got home, to rejoin gym.  That evening, I went to gym, exercised in the hydrotherapy pool for 30 minutes then swam laps for a further 30 minutes.

Today I worked hard at the spring cleaning once more, ate healthy throughout the day, according to my appetite, and tonight I went back to my Aquamoves gym, enrolled in a over 50’s Gym and Group Fitness membership which allows me unlimited access to the gymnasium, pools, spa, sauna, hydrotherapy pool, aqua aerobics, group fitness classes and of these classes of, Body Pump, Body step, Body Combat, Body Balance, Body Jam, Body Vive,.

There are special, over 50’s classes every morning, don’t be fooled and think over 50’s classes are soft options as i find the over 50’s work out harder than the 20 year olds,  I’ll be a while catching up with this fit 50 plus group.

The membership will cost me $21.40 a fortnight with a 4.5% price increase this October and I can attend 8 months out of the year then suspend my membership to go on tour, for 4 months out of every year, and pay no fees during this time.  I can also have my membership suspended without paying a fee, any time with a doctor’s letter saying I am unfit to attend.

I am having a personal fitness assessment tomorrow morning and I can re request this as often as I like to keep track of my progress. J

Reg and I intend to walk to the lake in our village, most evenings around sunset and of course I am currently spring cleaning and soon will be gardening so I plan to be active as much as I am able to as most of my interests, writing, art, reading, are relatively sedentary activities and I need balance in my life to maintain the fitness I desire.
